Obituary for Dwight Dewey Coppock Sr.

Dwight Dewey Coppock Sr, age 98, of Knoxville passed into heaven on August 1, 2018.

To many he was known as Dwight, to three he was known as “Daddy,” and to a special few he was known as “DD” or “Pops.” Together with his wife of 68 years, Virginia Tolbert Coppock, he built a legacy. His life was centered on serving God and loving his family, both whom he was deeply passionate about. He was unwavering in his faith, deeply principled, selfless, always cheerful and generous. Dwight was born in Cullman, Alabama to James Arthur Coppock and Mary Will Jackson Coppock. He started working for Ira A Watson Company during high school. As a result of his dedication and integrity he retired as a Vice President after more than 50 years of service. As a profound Christian, Dwight was actively involved in West Knoxville Baptist Church & West Park Baptist Church. In addition to serving God, Dwight served his country as a US Army Veteran in World War II. Hobbies such as fishing, gardening, apple picking, investing, and his grandchildren put joy into his heart.

In addition to his parents, Dwight is preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy, Roscoe and Kenneth; sister, Elsie Robison.

He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Virginia; daughters, Connie Booher and husband Joe, Carolyn Nixon; son, Dwight Dewey “Buddy” Coppock Jr; grandchildren, Kelly Coppock, McCalla Kuhlman and husband Russell, Camile Aragon and husband Trae, Brandy Story and husband Jamie, Mecca Baker and husband Tim, Jesse Booher; great grandchildren, Ohren Aragon-Godfrey, Taj Wampler, Briscoe Kuhlman III, Oracle Aragon and Cade Baker; sister, Mary Kent; brother, Charles Coppock; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at 11:30 am on Tuesday at the East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, 2200 East Gov John Sevier Highway in Knoxville, TN for a service with Rev. James Lynch officiating. Full military honors will be conferred by the US Army and the East Tennessee State Veteran's Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Chapel, 9020 Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville, TN
