Obituary for Harmon Kreis Weigel Sr.

Harmon Kreis Weigel, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 15. Kreis passed very peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.

Kreis was born in Knoxville, TN on February 13, 1935 and grew up in the Asbury and Strawberry Plains communities where he graduated from Carter High School in 1953 and was Treasurer of his Senior Class. Kreis was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Overton Weigel with their 51st wedding anniversary approaching on July 14; daughters, Nan F. Sweitzer and Deborah F. Lauria; stepson and daughter-in-law, R. Gale Huneycutt, Jr. and wife, Julie L. Huneycutt; grandchildren, Sunny Sweitzer, Redmond Sweitzer, Anthony Lauria and wife, Lara, Kristina Lauria, Chandler Huneycutt, Sydney Huneycutt, Taylor Huneycutt, Kory Weigel, and Brittney Weigel.

Kreis is preceded in death by his parents, Frank A. Weigel, Jr. and Mildred B. Weigel; children, Terry and Kreis Weigel, Jr.

Kreis was a very kind, supportive, and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to many throughout his life whereby he cherished many long-standing special relationships that were very dear to his heart. Kreis was lovingly known as "Papa Kreis" to his children and grandchildren and was known to be a big adventurer throughout his life with many fun family trips taken on RV's (most of which he built), and motorcycle touring trips with his close friends across the Nation's beautiful countryside.

Kreis graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree in Agriculture. Kreis was a man who was very gifted with many technical skills and talents in the areas of agriculture, construction, mechanics, and electronics. While Kreis spent most of his career in the field of farming and agriculture, he also started a very successful fiberglass swimming pool business whereby he personally designed, manufactured, and installed the swimming pools that he sold throughout several states. Kreis was also one of the original founding partners of Puleo's Grille Restaurant and helped oversee the construction of each location. Of the many jobs that Kreis had over the years, he would tell friends and family that his favorite job was delivering milk for French Broad Dairy at 5:30 in the morning to customer's residences throughout East Tennessee.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The University of Tennessee Hospital for their genuine and wonderful care for Kreis.

There will be a Celebration of Life service honoring Kreis at Second Presbyterian Church in the Sanctuary located at 2829 Kingston Pike on Wednesday June 20, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tim Reynolds presiding. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee, 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 and Second Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
