Obituary for Marilyn Jean Murray

Marilyn Jean Kirby Murray, age 87, of Knoxville passed away early Thursday morning, March 1, 2018 at her home.

Marilyn worked at the University of Tennessee Physical Plant and retired from Knox County Public Building Authority. She was a long standing member of Erin Presbyterian Church. Marilyn was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, who loved the Lord. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone or any animal in need. Some of her favorite actives were feeding and watching wild life, cooking for family and reading.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, John Murray; parents, Ralph Kirby and Iris Claiborne Kirby; brothers, Warren and Ralph “R L” Kirby.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy “Jewel” Catlett of Georgia, Patricia Johnson of Knoxville; sons, Charles Grant Murray and wife Denise of Kingsport, Dr. Gregory John Murray of Florida; granddaughter, Allison Anne Murray; special nephew, William Terry; special niece, Terri Hill-Terry; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for graveside service with Rev. Danny Hill officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wears Valley Ranch, 100 One Fine Place, Sevierville, TN 37862.
