Obituary for Don and Joann Hill

Don and Joann had been married for almost 54 years. They truly loved each other in life and were inseparable for most of their years together. Now, nothing separates them, for their love really did conquer all; even death, itself. Dying within months of the love of your life and passing into eternity together is the stuff of legends, but it's exactly what happened to Don and Joann Hill.

Don Hill passed away in his sleep on September 29, 2017 of age-related complications. He was born April 15, 1939 in Pennsylvania and was the oldest of three children. Don proudly served in the United States Air Force, was a graduate of the University of Maryland and retired from his job as a Computer Engineer at IBM to spend more time with his beloved wife.

Joann Damron Hill passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018 of cancer. She was born October 1, 1943 in Kentucky and was the middle of three children. Joann spent many years working for COMSAT Corporation in Maryland as an Administrative Assistant and enjoyed the wonderful friends she made amongst her colleagues.

Joann loved to travel and was able to visit over a dozen countries during her lifetime and experience the culture and significance of each location. She left an impression on everyone she met with her joyous zest for life, outgoing and friendly character, and her profound beauty. She was beautiful with a sparkle in her eyes when she talked about people and things she loved. She had the ability to make other people smile – even during the final days of her own health struggles. She was, quite simply, beautiful; all the way down to her soul. That beauty touched everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her and all of those who had the honor of calling her a friend.

Don was a devoted husband and a doting father to his young children. He was an avid historian, particularly Civil War history. He delighted in visiting the historical battle sites surrounding the Maryland area and exploring the locations that he had spent considerable time researching to gain a deeper understanding of what he had read. Don also was an enthusiastic traveler.

Don and Joann Hill are survived by their two daughters; Jennifer Hill and Cindy Hill Athey. They are survived by their seven grandchildren; Bryce, Sara, Bella, Samantha, Rebecca, James, and Mary. Joann enjoyed a very close relationship with her only surviving brother, Johnnie Damron. The couple is also survived by numerous extended family members as well as wonderful friends.
