Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" Watson Finch

Elizabeth (Liz) Watson Finch, a Christian of the Methodist faith, went to live with the Lord on January 22, 2018. Liz was born in Rome, GA and lived there as well as north Alabama until her family moved to Oak Ridge in 1952. In 1955, the family moved to Kingston and Liz attended Roane County High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry Finch in 1959 and they recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. Larry and Liz moved to Oak Ridge in 1959 and lived there until 1970 when they moved to Knoxville.

Liz worked at the Y-12 Federal Credit Union from 1982 until retirement in 1999. She was manager of the loan department at the Oak Ridge office at retirement. She enjoyed her work as well as all of her friends at the Credit Union.

Liz loved to travel and was a great travel companion. She was a huge Lady Vol fan and attended five Final Fours. Liz got much enjoyment when they won the National Championships in 2007 at Cleveland and in 2008 in Tampa (both she attended with Larry). Liz was an avid gardener and took much pleasure in tending to her vegetable and her flower gardens. She enjoyed reading, jig-saw puzzles and crossword puzzles. Liz loved doing things for others and was a very humble person. She was a great cook and loved family gatherings. Liz loved laughter and was a wonderful wife as well as mother and grandmother. Her love for her family was immense and they all loved her so much. She will be missed enormously by family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents Glynn and Ruby Watson and her son-in-law Mike Benton. Survivors include her loving husband Larry and her four children, Larry Wayne Finch, Donna Denise Benton, Michael Kevin Finch, Carole Jayne Atkins and her husband Ken, and her two grandchildren Kenneth Bruce Atkins III (Trey and his wife Rachel), and Sara Elizabeth Atkins, all of Knoxville. She also leaves her brother Joe Watson (Kingston) and her sister Glenda (Jimmy) Weaver, also of Kingston.

Her strength as she fought the tough two-year battle with cancer was beyond words.

Special thanks to Holly Norman, Tobye Lowe, and Nancy Cole for their strong support during her illness as well as Tennessee Cancer Specialists, Thompson Cancer Center and NHC (Oak Ridge), and Hospice Groups Amedisys and Caris. The staffs at all these facilities were outstanding.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
