Obituary for Dorothy Virginia Laurie

Dorothy Virginia Laurie, (97) of Farragut TN passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018 and is now at rest in heaven.

Dorothy was born on April 9, 1920 in Manhattan NYC later moving to Williston Park, Albertson, East Williston and then Wading River Long Island. For the last 13 years Dorothy resided in Farragut Tennessee. Dorothy was a graduate of Mineola High School and worked as a school secretary for many years in both Mineola and Wading River High Schools on Long Island.

Dorothy, charter member of the “Greatest Generation” married George H Laurie on May 2, 1942, two weeks before he shipped out for world war II. They were married for 51 years when George passed away in 1993. Their marriage and loving relationship set the standard that their children strive to mirror. Dorothy and George raised three children, George Martin (Helen), Linda Ferreira (Joe) and Robert (Debbie). Dorothy is also survived by her eleven grandchildren and 12 (soon to be thirteen) great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Click Funeral Home, Farragut Chapel. Services will then be held on Long Island before joining her husband George in Calverton National Cemetery.
