Obituary for Florence Beckett-Harris

Florence Beckett-Harris was born in Charleston, South Carolina to the late John Lewis Beckett, Sr. and Lena Cohen-Beckett on November 6, 1941. When Florence wasn't focused on her studies, she enjoyed helping her Mama around the house with household choirs; additionally, she would assist with helping take care of her younger siblings. She and her family would attend Good Hope Baptist Church and it was there that she developed & maintained a strong relationship with Christ. On May 30, 1960, Florence graduated from Estill Training High School. Shortly thereafter, she located to New York where she became a live in nanny for the Stripe Family for many years. At which time, she met and courted Medicus "Bobby" Brown and they would later marry and have 5 children: Audrey McGee, David Brown, Sharon Brown, "Little" Florence Marie Ndiaye, and Danielle Denise Brown. In the spring of 1985, Florence B. Harris relocated to Cayce, S.C. where she would raise her two youngest daughters, Florence Marie Ndiaye and Danielle Denise Brown from the comfort of their home. Having been a stay at home mom for 6 years, Florence decided to become a school bus driver for Lexington School District which, she did for ten years before retiring. She met and remarried Andrew Joe Harris on June 5, 1993 and was happily married until he passed away on January 14, 1997. On Friday, February 15, 2019, Florence Beckett Harris was surrounded by family when she took her final breath before reuniting with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Florence Beckett Harris is preceded in death by parents, Lena Cohen-Beckett & John Lewis Beckett Sr.; sister, Raychelle Jiggetts; brothers, Randolph Beckett, Rudolph Beckett, Argie Beckett; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Beckett; grandsons, Quentin A. McGee & Emmanuel Ndiaye.

Florence Beckett Harris survived by children, Audrey McGee (husband, James), David I. Brown, Sharon Brown, Danielle D. Brown (Fiancé, Shaun), Florence M. Ndiaye (husband, Dave); brothers, John L. Beckett Jr. (wife, Jessica) of Fayetteville, G.A., Charles Beckett (wife, Rosetta) of Teaneck, N.J.; sister, Ruby Beckett, of Estell, S.C.; granddaughters, Erika McGee, Kenya A. McGee, & Isabelle Ndiaye; grandsons, Davron Brown, Sharid Brown, Ronid Brown, Dorian Williams, Desmond Williams; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a plethora of friends.

The family of Florence Beckett Harris wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Avalon Hospice, all the Nurses, Doctors, Nursing Assistants, Chaplains, Priests, Social Workers, Bereavement Counselors, Family, Fellowship North Church, All Saints Catholic Church, and all the many friends whom we call family who have supported us tirelessly throughout this very difficult chapter of our lives. May we each hold on to God's never ending grace to sustain us knowing that our mother can now rest in eternal peace & that one day, we will reunite with her. Blessings...
