Obituary for Delores Ann Grissom Chitester

Delores A. (Dee) Chitester, age 72, of Knoxville, Tennessee died on Friday, March 1, 2019.

She was born to the late James W. Grissom and Margaret L. Grissom, on November 4, 1946 in Martin, Tennessee. Dee graduated from Gleason High School and studied Business Administration at The University of Tennessee, Martin. She was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, and graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University School of Banking. She was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Southern Club of Indianapolis, and was very active in her community, having served on various Boards and Committees.

Dee is survived by her husband and love of her life, Raymond Chitester; son, Randall (Randy) Spence and wife, Leslie; daughter, Rachele Ransom and husband, Tim; son, Ken and wife, Elizabeth (Liz). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Randall (Justin) Spence, Lakin Spence, Hannah Little, and Madison Little.

She had an impressive professional career in banking, winning many awards, and being recognized many times for her professional excellence. She was listed in the Top 100 Business Women in America for her accomplishments. After her banking career ended, she formed A Helping Hand, a non-profit organization with the purpose of helping those in need. She felt that helping others was her real purpose in life, and she had many wonderful experiences during this time as she ministered to others.

Dee lived her life with love, courage, humor, and a faith, which grew stronger by the day. She loved Christ, her family, and others- in that order. She complained seldom, accepted trials with humbleness and finished everything like a champion. She touched all who came in contact with her and always had a ready smile. Dee always had a kind word for others, and never sought the spotlight, rather wishing for it to shine elsewhere, especially on her family. She loved her family immensely and always had her latest family story to share. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, March 5 at the Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Chapel. A dinner will be served in her honor at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church following the receiving of friends Tuesday evening for family and loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 9 A.M. on Wednesday, March 6 at the Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Chapel with Rev. James Craig officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923.
