Obituary for William L. (Bill) Burns

William L. Burns, age 68, took Jesus’ hand on May 9, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a member of Grigsby Chapel Methodist Church and was a 1968 graduate of Karns High School.

Bill was a devoted follower and Christian. He loved his pastor, Amanda Madison. He looked forward to each discussion he had with her about the Bible and Philosophers Plato and Aristotle.

Bill retired from TDS after 39 years of service. He was an avid UT Football fan and loved working in his yard and on his property.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William C (Slim) and Rubye Burns; sister, Martha; and favorite Uncle, Kenneth (Jethro) Burns of the “Homer and Jethro Duet Team”.

Bill is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary; sisters, Linda Burns Francis and Janella Burns Armstrong; devoted nephew, Joshua Tindell; and special friend, Kevin Kelly.

The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 on Saturday at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with a service to follow, Rev Chris Francis and Rev Amanda Madison, officiating. Burial will be at Virtue Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Young Williams Animal Shelter, www.young-williams.org.
