Obituary for Robert Henry Sandlin

Robert (Bob) Henry Sandlin, age 80, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, formerly of Chattanooga, died on December 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Lake City, Florida on October 2, 1937 to Preston and Ida Sandlin. He is survived by his wife of 58 years LeVerda Sparrow Sandlin, his two sons Rob (Anne) of Jacksonville, Florida and Scott (Cara) of Dalton, Georgia, his grandchildren Casey, Sam (Sarah), Morgan, and Scottie, his sister-in-law JoAnn Horner of Knoxville, and his niece Beverly (Tom) Sweatt of Colleyville, Texas . Bob considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events and other activities.

After excelling in four sports at Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida, the all-state tailback accepted a football scholarship to The University of Tennessee where he developed lifelong friendships. His football career is highlighted by winning the 1956 SEC Championship and playing the entire 60 minutes of his final game in 1959.

Upon graduation, Bob and LeVerda moved to Florida where he was a teacher and coach. Bob entered into a successful career in the oil industry joining Texaco in 1965 and later moved his family to Chattanooga where he became the Vice President of Benton Oil Company. Bob completed his career with Mansfield Oil, and retired to Tellico Village in Loudon, Tennessee.

The family of Bob Sandlin would like to thank the staff at UT Hospice, Shannondale Health Care Center, and Genesis Neuroscience Clinic and other caregivers for their loving care.

Family and friends will miss #17 immensely.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 with a funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jim Greer of Tellico Village.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to University of Tennessee Medical Center and designate to U T Hospice, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,
