Obituary for Raymond Perry Johnson, Sr

Raymond Perry Johnson, 75, of Knoxville died Wednesday, October 18 after a brief illness. He is retired as the former co-owner of Johnson’s Produce Company, a business he shared with his late brother Andy and the late Tommy Griffen.

Raymond is a member of the West High School Class of 1959. Shortly after graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean Lawson. Their 58-year relationship was always filled with the simple joy of getting to be together every day. From humble beginnings, they built a wonderful life together in the Powell and Farragut areas.

For anyone who knew Raymond, he will be remembered for his kind spirit, compassion and treatment of others. His passion in life was his wife and two kids, Terri and Raymond Jr. He lived his life to please and provide for his family. He always offered wonderful advice, a shoulder to lean on and loved sharing his life experiences. His compassion included delivering goods to families during the fires in the Smoky Mountains last year and assisting in remodeling a home for a family member.

Raymond also loved watching baseball and football games, old Western movies, and traveling. He took great pride in his home and its landscaping and loved having family together to share a meal.

Raymond is preceded in death by his father, Andrew T. Johnson and mother, Gladys “Dee” Johnson and a younger brother, Andy. He is survived by wife, Doris Jean; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Dale Bledsoe of Knoxville; son, Raymond (Ray) Jr. of Nashville; one brother, Albert (Susan) Johnson; sister-in-law, Susan (Andy) Johnson; sisters, Joann (Evans) Fine of Germantown, Tennessee; Judy (Charles) Hux of Fayetteville, Georgia and Loretta (Jim) Patty of Loganville, Georgia; brother-in-law, David (Myra) Lawson of Knoxville and Jeff (Linda) Johnson of Knoxville. In addition, he is survived by nieces and nephews, Jennifer Robinson, Amanda Gex, Brad Johnson, Melissa Hux, Marty Hux, Jim Patty, Jason Johnson, Casey Johnson, Dusty Johnson, Tracy Farmer, Mike Lawson, Susan Jennings and Rob Wagner.

The Johnson family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Park West for the amazing care Raymond received during his week-long stay in the hospital.
