Obituary for Philip James "Phil" Pfeifer

Philip James “Phil” Pfeifer, age 65, of Knoxville unexpectedly passed away at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was born Philip James Conserva in Margate, England to US Air Force Pilot Capt. Philip j. Conserva and Margaret “Peg” McKernan Conserva. As an infant, he lost his father in a tragic military jet collision and was later adopted by his stepfather Raymond Pfeifer. Upon graduation from Indiana University, he served honorably in the US Army. After his military service, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Indiana University School of Law School. He moved to Knoxville to practice law for the Department of Energy and was presently an attorney in TVA's Office of the General Counsel.

He was exceptionally gifted and had an amazing way with words that enabled him to have a larger than life persona. Phil’s passion for his profession was only surpassed by his undying love for his family. He adored his wife Janet. She made him intensely happy and was the only person who could give him a verbal run for the money and to whom he ever would concede. His children were his most precious gifts and they filled his heart with joy. He was able to teach them the power of love through his commitment and devotion.
Phil was preceded in death by his fathers, Captain Philip J. Conserva and Raymond A. Pfeifer
Phil is survived by his wife of 26 years Janet Pfeifer; children, Philip, Peggy and Olivia Pfeifer; his mother Peg McKernan Pfeifer, who will dearly miss her first-born and “favorite” (wink) son; siblings, , Andrew (Christy) Pfeifer, Mary (Tim) Eve, Therese (Barry) Sirles, Maureen Pfeifer-Dunn, Margaret (David) Parks, Veronica (Stuart) Cape, Michael Pfeifer, and Michelle Pfeifer.
Our family is heartbroken. We are so blessed to have each other in this difficult time. As we grieve Phil’s loss and embrace his memory, we ask for your prayers. We also ask that you honor Phil’s life and his way by motivating, encouraging and expressing your love to your family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5th from 5-6:45 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Deacon Patrick Murphy-Racey celebrant. Family and friends will gather at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the East Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery for graveside services with full military honors conferred by the U S Army and the Volunteer State Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HonorAir Knoxville 7536 Taggart Lane Knoxville, TN 37938-8996
