Obituary for Nona Louise McClure Platillero

Nona Louise McClure Platillero, 90, of Knoxville, Tennessee died Tuesday, February 27 at Parkwest Medical Center, to be forever joined with Christ Jesus in heaven.

She was born on October 2, 1927 to Col. William Kyle and Anna Louise Johnston McClure in Knoxville, Tennessee and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior on January 2, 1948.

She graduated from Columbia Bible College in 1951, and moved to Barcelona, Spain as a single missionary where she met her husband Francisco (Paco) Platillero of Alicante, Spain. They were married at First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 9, 1957.

Nona and Paco raised six children and spent 20 years of ministry in Alicante, Spain planting a church out of their home that would later grow to become “Rio Vida,” a center for Christian education and retreats with Torchbearers International.

Nona and Paco retired and moved back to Knoxville, Tennessee in the late 1990’s, where Nona cared for Paco, spent time with her children and grandchildren, served in her church, helped organize local hispanic outreaches, volunteered at nursing homes and at Paideia Academy, and reached out to young people in her neighborhood by organizing “Jesus Birthday Parties” for 17 years.

Nona was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She carried great joy through her bright smile and kind eyes, and she always sought opportunities to share the love of Christ with others. She will be greatly missed.

Nona was preceded in death by her parents Col. William Kyle and Anna Louise Johnston McClure, husband Francisco (Paco) Platillero, and grandson Matthew Kyle Jenkins.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Anna & Ned Garlington, Mary & Bruce Howard, Ruth & Jeff Fournier, John & Mitzi Platillero, Joe & Cindy Platillero, and Paul & Kelly Platillero. 32 Grandchildren, 6 Great-grandchildren, and countless dear friends, locally and abroad.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at West Park Baptist Church (8833 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, TN 37932) on Friday, March 2, 2018. A celebration of Nona’s life will follow with Pastor Sam Polson and Pastor Philip Martin officiating.
