Obituary for Neoma Brinson

Neoma Brinson, 82, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed into the arms of Christ on September 13, 2017. Born May 11, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, to Earl and Goldie Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Virginia Mason Salgat, Earlyne Mason Salgat, William Mason, Robert Mason, and her daughter, Barbara Ann. She is survived by her loving family, husband of 63 years, Fredrick; children, David (Jean) of Indianapolis, Brad (Beth) of Knoxville, and Marsha of Knoxville. Her legacy includes eight beloved grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1939, Neoma’s family purchased a dairy farm in Northeast Michigan. During WWII, the family worked the farm while her father worked in the auto industry in Flint supporting the war efforts. She lived in a log cabin on the farm until her family built a barn for their livestock, and then a farmhouse was built. She also attended a one room schoolhouse.
Neoma met her future husband, Fred, at a Baptist youth party when they were both 17 years old. She was a senior at Flint Central High School. Fred was a freshman in college. She landed (intentionally) on his lap in an overcrowded Buick Roadmaster that evening. They fell in love and were married at age 19.
Neoma and Fred moved to Kokomo, Indiana where they lived for over 30 years. Neoma worked for General Motors in Kokomo as an executive assistant until she stayed home to raise her children. In 1969, she received her Indiana Real Estate Brokers License. She sold real estate for over 25 years and accrued numerous national sales records and awards through the course of her career. She strongly believed in treating others as she wished to be treated and this concern for others translated into an incredibly successful career.
Neoma and Fred relocated to Grand Blanc, Michigan, for seven years where they completed their individual careers, and then retired to Lake Keowee in Seneca, South Carolina. They lived in Seneca for over 20 years and enjoyed friends, golfing, the lake, traveling, and their family.
In July 2016 they moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to be closer to their children.
Neoma was often heard repeating the phrase, “You need 3 hugs a day just to be normal and 7 hugs to achieve greatness.” She was generous in offering those hugs to all crossing her path.
The love in her heart came from the presence of Christ residing there. Today she feels no more sorrow and no more pain. She has joined her Savior, and is rejoicing in His presence.
Neoma’s family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Jared Kravitz, M.D., the Palliative Care Team, and nursing staff of University of Tennessee Medical Center for their incredibly skilled, patient, and compassionate care. They acted as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Two Rivers Church, 275 Harrison Ln, Lenoir City, TN 37772 on Sunday, September 17, 2017. Visitation will be from 1:30-3:15pm followed by the memorial service at 3:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, Neoma wished memorial donations to be given in her name to Project Mercy, 7011 Ardmore Ave. Fort Wayne, IN 46809.
