Obituary for Kathleen Ann Dougherty

Kathleen Ann Dougherty, a proud member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and direct descendant of Chief Cornplanter, and true to her Native American heritage, waged a brave and valiant battle against cancer. Succumbing November 5, 2017. Kathi was surrounded by family, the music she loved filling her ears.

Kathi was born September 23, 1962 in Olean NY, and was raised near her ancestral tribal grounds in Limestone, NY. Kathi graduated valedictorian from Limestone High School in 1980 and in 1982 she earned an Associates degree in Business from Jamestown Community College.

Kathi then moved to Atlanta, GA and entered the veterinary pharmaceutical industry as an inside sales associate. After several years Kathi relocated to Knoxville, TN and continued as a territory manager in the veterinary pharmaceutical field. Kathi flourished in Knoxville. She loved her job and devoted herself to the betterment of animal welfare.

Sadly Kathi is preceded in death by her beloved sister, Cindy Jo Matthias and her recently deceased father, Herbert Dougherty. It broke her heart to leave behind her cherished mother Kookie Dougherty, devoted brother, Maty, her absolute pride and joy and nephew, Kyle James Matthias, his wife Brittany, and their two children Dax & Madelyn Matthias, her lifelong friend Teresa Franscini, legions of close friends and her feline kids, Kobe, Rocco, Gus and Gilbert. She adored being called “Kiki” “Aunt Kiki” or “Aunt Kathi” to her chosen nieces and nephews including Shelby Franscini Orozco, Shannon Franscini, Hannah Westerman, Lily Westerman, and Jack Elliott to name a few.

To have known Kathi is to love Kathi. You met her once you were friends forever. Always quick to volunteer, haul food to your door, mix a batch of sangria, be your biggest cheerleader, confidant or shoulder to cry on. We are all so lucky to have had Kathi in our lives, her impact is far reaching & profound.

Please join us in celebrating Kathi’s amazing life on December 2nd at Sonny Brooke Stables, 11904 Yarnell Road, Knoxville TN 37932. Very casual. Visitation begins at 2:30 followed by a blessing and time to share memories of Kathi from 3:30 til 4:30.

She will be interred next to her sister, father and relatives at the Horseshoe Cemetery on the Seneca Nation of Indians - Allegany Reservation in Killbuck, NY.

Kathi was passionate about the welfare of all animals. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to an animal charity. Some of Kathi’s favorite charities includes: HALT, c/o Catatoga Kennels, 1737 N. Campbell Station Road, Knoxville TN 37932, Small Breed Rescue of East Tennessee, P.O. Box 22482, Knoxville TN 37933 or Appalachian Bear Rescue, P.O. Box 364, Townsend, TN 37822.
