Obituary for Joseph Michael Boyd Harden

Joseph Michael Boyd Harden passed away suddenly Sunday, October 22, 2017 in Knoxville Tennessee. Joey was born May 11, 1980, in Cincinnati Ohio. The son of Wanda Jean McGuire Harden and Michael Lynn Harden, the family relocated to Kingsport Tennessee in 1983. He attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and after graduating enlisted in the Army. Joey
proudly served his country for four years while stationed in Hawaii. After his Honorable Discharge Joey returned to Kingsport and worked as an electrician with Fluor Corp at the Tennessee Eastman Company. Joey later settled in Knoxville. He was employed with The East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery where he was grateful to honor his fellow veterans. He was a hard worker and admired his colleagues. Joey was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. It is joked that he liked fishing so much that a deep puddle would tempt
him. He's also been known to float the Nolichucky River without a raft or tube, just a life vest and a laugh. Joey strived to be the man his Mamaw Betty knew he could be. Her passing earlier this year reinforced his determination to make her proud. Joey was a man of faith. His family and friends were his treasures. Perhaps Joey's greatest achievement was his passion for helping others. Knowing how it felt to stumble, Joey believed it his duty to offer his hand to anyone in need. He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Mamaw Betty Baker Harden. Joey is survived by his sister, Jessica Dawn Harden Frye, brother-in-law, BJ Frye, and nephew, Dylan Michael Joseph Frye of Kingsport. His mother-in-heart, Pat Frye Vermillion of Mendoza, VA. Half-brother James Ray Linebaugh. His fiancé, Emily Warwick Perry and children Brody and Ava. Joey was looking forward to more family time supporting Brody at baseball and cheering Ava at her tumbling events. Joey also leaves behind a host of friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to Kevin Knowles and the entire staff of ETSVC for their kindness and support during this difficult time. They would also like to thank and acknowledge Phillip Clark and everyone associated with Steps House, Marine Colonel Charles Stallings, and Dale and Bev Weaver, for their mentorship and unwavering support given to Joey. God did not promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, nor sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way. A military service will be held Friday, November 3, 2017, 2:00pm at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Honorary Pallbearers-Victor Roberts, Vincent Roberts, Cory Shugart, Matt Grissom, Travis Gardner, Scott Fraser, Phillip Clark, Greg “Pittbull” Quedens, David “Buddy” Warwick, Jr. and Jason Suddereth. In lieu of flowers the family asks to please send donations to Steps House-Homeless Veterans Program, 725 Boggs Ave, Knoxville, TN 37920.
