Donald Jay “Don” Tweedy, age 84 of Knoxville died peacefully on December 29, 2017. Don grew up in Mt Pleasant, Iowa and was of Methodist faith. Upon graduation from Iowa State University in agricultural engineering, Don served in the US Air Force for 6 years. While stationed in Germany at Ramstein Air Force he flew the F-86 Sabre and met Lucy, his wife of 58 years. After his military service, Don’s career included representing Caterpillar equipment and eventually owning Norris Asphalt Paving Company located in Iowa and Missouri. Don never met a stranger and was well respected by those that worked with him.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Olathe Tweedy and RJ Tweedy, brothers Robert Tweedy and Roger Tweedy, and infant grandson Weston Brown.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by his wife Luise Tweedy, daughter Susanne Hauk and husband Blake, grandson Warren Donald Brown, granddaughter Heather Christine Brown, half brother James Tweedy, half sisters Bonnie Ballard and Betty Holtz, brother-in-law Werner Kneller, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don’s family will miss his voice of reason, words of encouragement and unconditional love.
The family would like extend their gratitude to all of the special caretakers at Clarity Pointe. Their care of Don and support to the family was greatly appreciated.
A private family graveside service was held January 3, 2018 with Rev Caryl Griffin Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 9050 Executive Park Drive Suite A106 Knoxville TN 37923.
